Well, what a year 2020 has been (and it isn’t over yet!).

Under the current circumstances, the lights will be a little different this year. The plan is to set them up in a remote location, and then stream them live to the internet. This is all very untested, so it might take a little while to get right (if it works at all!).

The aim is to have a live stream up by the 1st December, but as always work/life commitments may push the date back.

Check back again soon for updates and in the meantime, stay safe.

Installation for 2018 is well underway, most of the lights are now installed with just some finishing touches needed. This year I’m making use of LED Pixels, so I’ve got built myself a new controller 🙂

I’m using the SanDevices E682 controller, which is a big step up for me as its a “professional” grade bit of kit using network connectivity to stream the control signals. Learning fast!

It’s officially Christmas season, and the lights are in full swing! The switch on was broadcast live to Facebook, a HD video of this years display will appear over the next few weeks. The display runs from 8Am till 6PM daily, so still plenty of time to see the show if you couldn’t make it to the switch on.

This years lights are up and running!

With over 100 control channels, this is the most complex display yet. Please drop by CSE/106 Monday, Tuesday or Thursday to watch the show.

Installation started today on the final Selby College Christmas Lights display!

Due to work commitments (not to mention it’s really expensive building two sets of lights!) I’m afraid this will be the last year I do a lights display at Selby College. Next year everyone is very welcome to visit me instead at The Department of Computer Science  🙂

It’s nearly time to put the lights up at Selby College, work begins this Friday (29th) and if all goes according to plan switch on will be 4:45PM on Tuesday 3rd December. Check back regular for installation progress 🙂

The CS Department lights are up and running!

This year we have a touch screen interface, giving full control over the display.

Another installation day @ Selby College today!

Lights are now up, complete with tinsel. This shot taken during testing, one of the snowflakes isn’t working at the moment but the cable fault has been identified and will be fixed on Monday.

We even have the Christmas Tree up ready for Monday.
